What if I am not working currently in the security field but I’m licensed?

It’s always cheaper long run to keep your security licenses current, even if you’re not currently working in the field.  Many people leave the field and let their licenses expire, then they decide to come back into security and have to complete the initial application process all over again.  This can be costly, especially for armed security officers.

How to get a security license in Florida?

To obtain a security license in Florida, you will need to follow these steps:

  1. Meet the eligibility requirements: You must be at least 18 years old, a citizen or legal resident of the United States, and have no disqualifying criminal history.
  2. Complete a state-approved training course: You will need to complete a 40-hour security officer training course at a state-approved training centre. The course covers topics such as legal issues, emergency procedures, and ethical behaviour.
  3. Submit your application: Once you have completed the training course, you can apply for your security license through the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. You will need to provide documentation of your training, along with a set of fingerprints and a recent photograph.
  4. Pass a background check: Your application will be subject to a criminal background check by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
  5. Receive your license: If your application is approved, you will receive your security license in the mail. Your license will be valid for two years.

Note that the requirements for obtaining a security license in Florida may vary depending on the type of security work you will be performing. For example, armed security officers will need to complete additional training and meet additional requirements. It’s important to check with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services for the specific requirements for your situation.

Can I use my Florida security license in Georgia?

No, you cannot use your Florida security license in Georgia. Each state has its own licensing requirements and regulations for security officers, and you must meet the specific requirements of the state in which you will be working.

If you want to work as a security officer in Georgia, you will need to obtain a Georgia security license. The requirements for obtaining a Georgia security license may be similar to those in Florida, but you will need to complete the training and application process specific to Georgia.

It’s important to note that some states have reciprocity agreements with other states, which means that if you have a security license from one state, you may be able to use it to obtain a license in another state without having to complete all the training requirements. However, Florida and Georgia do not have a reciprocity agreement for security licenses, so you will need to obtain a separate license for each state.
