What is a Class D License?
A class d license is a state-required license in Florida to work in the private security industry. The class d license requires 40 hours of professional security training to meet state licensing requirements as per Florida Statutes 493. The state law requires any security agency that provides contract services must hire licensed security guard staff to conduct these services. It is illegal for a security guard to work security for a security company without a license. If the client hires the security guard direct and pays their salary, then a class d license is not required. The license is valid for two years and must be renewed before its expiration date so the security guard can continue working.
The class d license training prepares security guards with the necessary skills to work in private security. The security guard training is 40 hours of various modules that will educate security guards in access control, patrolling, ethics, terrorism, fire watch, medical emergencies, and emergency preparedness. Once students graduate the security guard training program, they can then apply for the Florida security license and start working right away.

How to Obtain Your Florida Security D License?
To become a security officer in the State of Florida, students are required to complete 40 hours of classroom training for the Florida Security D License. The Florida security training course is not available online and must be completed at a licensed security school (DS). Students must be at least 18 years of age with no disqualifying criminal history to apply for the Florida Security D License. Students must be a U.S Citizen or have a work visa to apply for the Security D License.
Invictus will provide our students with the following:
- Florida Security Application.
- Notarization of the application (optional), one(1) passport photo (optional)
- 40-hour security certificate of completion.
- Students will also be required to pay the State of Florida, Division of Licensing “D” application $45 fee, and $42 for the FBI background check.
- Invictus is a qualified Live Scan provider for electronic fingerprinting services.
Class D Security License Course
The Class D Security Course is offered at our security training academy in a 4-day period, consisting of 10 hour days. The Class D Security Course covers the State of Florida’s security curriculum to prepare security officers for unarmed security services. The Florida Division of Licensing regulates the security industry and Florida Statutes 493, requiring security officers to complete 40 hours of security training.
Invictus security training is comprised of PowerPoint presentations, lectures, practical applications, current events, and team-building Exercises. Students must complete a multiple-choice test at the completion of training. Invictus instructor staff will help prepare our students for the test with class reviews and top quality instruction. The Florida Security D License course will prepare our students with the fundamentals to become a security professional.
