To work armed security in the State of Florida, you must obtain the Statewide Firearms License. This course requires 28 hours of classroom and firearms training. This must be conducted by a K instructor licensed in the State. Invictus is the leading provider of the Statewide Firearms License training.
Florida Armed Guard License Fraud
The Division of Licensing (DOL) has been carrying out a year long investigation with the Department’s Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement into claims of Florida Armed Guard License Fraud. A substantial number of Class “K” Firearms Instructors have been selling training certificates to students seeking to obtain the Statewide Firearms License and the 4 hour annual G recertification without providing the required training under Florida Statutes 493.
The State Law requires 28 hours of training and the student qualifies shooting 3 relays of 48 rounds for a total of 144 rounds. The law requires G licensees receive 4 hours of training and can qualify on the first try if they successfully shoot a 168 or better out of a possible 240 score on the qualification.
There has been a multitude of K instructors who have been apprehended as a result of this investigation, and a number of Statewide Firearms G licensees have willingly given up their G licenses after an investigation with the DOL. The DOL is imposing stricter measures concerning Statewide Firearms training to stop the issue with fraudulent documents being sent to the DOL.
The Armed Security Training new Requirements
The DOL will no longer accept copies of Certificates of Firearms Proficiency. The DOL will only accept the white copy of the Certificates of Firearms Proficiency form. Upon completion of the Statewide Firearms training, students are required to include the WHITE COPY of their training completion certificate with their application or their renewal letter.
The current version of the Certificates of Firearms Proficiency was revised in October 2011. The DOL will only accept this version of the Certificates of Firearms Proficiency. The DOL will not accept any earlier versions of this form.
The DOL will be taking additional steps in the future to address this situation concerning fraudulent certificates. The DOL will keep licensees informed regarding any changes to the Certificates of Firearms Proficiency document or how to process these documents. Be advised that anyone submitting anything other than an original Certificates of Firearms Proficiency for a new or renewal Class “G” license will be sent an error/omission letter requesting the original training documentation.
