New 2017 Fingerprint and Retention Fee Law F.S. 493
January 1, 2017, the Law will require F.S. 493 renewal licensees to re-submit their fingerprints and pay the processing and retention fees to be enrolled in the federal and statewide fingerprint retention programs if they have not already done so during initial licensure.
F.S. 493 Licensees will have to submit fingerprints and pay both processing fees upon the first renewal; all subsequent renewals will only require the licensee to pay statewide retention fees. This applies to the Class D Security License, Class G Statewide Firearms License, Class C Private Investigator License, Class CC Private Investigator Intern License, M, MA, MB Manager Licenses, Class E Recovery Agent License, Class EE Recovery Agent Intern License and the Class K Firearms Instructor License.
493.6113 (3) Renewal Application for Licensure
- Each licensee is responsible for renewing his or her license on or before its expiration by filing with the department an application for renewal accompanied by payment of the renewal fee and the fingerprint retention fee to cover the cost of ongoing retention in the statewide automated biometric identification system established in s. 943.05 (2)(b).
- Upon the first renewal of a license issued under this chapter before January 1, 2017, the licensee shall submit a full set of fingerprints and fingerprint processing fees to cover the cost of entering the fingerprints into the statewide automated biometric identification system pursuant to s. 493.6108(4)(a) and the cost of enrollment in the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s national retained print arrest notification program. Subsequent renewals may be completed without submission of a new set of fingerprints.

- 2 Year Licensee 1st Renewal is: $40.50 Fingerprint & Retention Fee
- 3 Year Licensee: 1st Renewal Is: $46.50 Fingerprint & Retention Fee
- Example: Security Class D License holder has to renew their license March 2017. The D Licensee must pay $45 Security D License Renewal Fee plus $40.50 Fingerprint & Retention Fee to the Division
Renewal After Fingerprints are Retained
- 2 Year License Renewals with Fingerprints Retained Renewal License Fee + $16.75 Retention Fee
- 3 Year License Renewals with Fingerprints Retained Renewal License Plus $22.75 Retention Fee
- Example: D Licensee Paid Fingerprint Processing and Retention Fee $40.50 in January 2017. In January 2019 the D license is up for Renewal. The D Licensee must pay $45 D License Renewal Fee and $16.75 Retention Fee to the Division.
