Arrested for Fraudulent Armed Security G Licenses in Florida

16 Arrested for Fraudulent Armed Security G Licenses in Florida.  Beware where you receive your security & firearms training! The State of Florida has a plague of fraudulent security schools and firearms instructors that cheat the system and the students they are training for licensure.  This stems from North Florida down to South Florida with a path for destruction. The liability of hiring security officer’s (unarmed and armed) to provide services without proper training is becoming a trend in the State of Florida. This is huge liability not only for the security companies that are hiring these officer’s but also for the clients they are hired to protect.  The State must take accountability for allowing security & firearms instructors providing little or no training at all. Here in the State of Florida security training is required to be performed at a licensed security school (DS), but armed security training can be performed pretty much from a firearms (K) instructors trunk or even Burger King. There is not enough accountability to ensure these armed security officers are being trained properly with a firearm to provide armed security services.  Security training throughout Florida is pretty much a joke and officer’s receive the bare minimum from a majority of licensed security schools, most of these schools are in it for a quick buck.  When you see on craigslist  “Cheapest Security School or less then $200 for the Statewide Firearms License”, how much training are you receiving in this course?  The State requires only 3 days of training (28 hours), is this enough to properly train officers to carry a firearm while working armed to protect the public?  We constantly come across armed security officers for the Statewide Firearms annual 4 hour certification that have no knowledge of the firearm they are licensed to carry, with poor weapons handling and firearms safety. We have 4 hours to try to retrain them to qualify, and this is a mission in its self. We recently had an officer working for one of the biggest security companies who’s firearm was rusted shut with corrosive ammunition.  Where did he receive his training? This is weapons maintenance 101!  It’s time for not only the State to be accountable but also the security companies who are hiring these officers knowing that the officer has poor training. This is vicarious liability.  If we want to see wage increases in Florida for the security industry, then the training standards must be increased across the State.

Vicarious liability is a form of strict, secondary liability that arises under the common law doctrine of agency – respondeat superior – the responsibility of the superior for the acts of their subordinate, or, in a broader sense, the responsibility of any third party that had the “right, ability or duty to control” the activities of a violator.
